Judge appointed to new seat in Northwest Judicial District

North Dakota: Governor John Hoeven has appointed Todd Cresap to a seat on the Northwest Judicial District that was created by the North Dakota Legislature in 2009. Cresap will be based out of Minot in Ward County. His appointment begins effective January 1, 2010.

Cresap was one of three candidates for the new seat recommended to the Governor by the North Dakota Judicial Nominating Committee. The other two were William Bergman and Kelly Dillon. [1]

Cresap earned his undergraduate degree from Minot State University in 1983 and his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1986. He had been practicing law for 23 years when he received his judicial appointment. [2]

New judgeships authorized

North Dakota: The North Dakota Legislature approved two additional district judgeships for the state in 2009. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that one of the judges will be placed in the overworked Northwest Judicial District in Minot. This placement will increase the number of district judges in Minot from four to five.

Judges in the district are pleased that the district was selected. "The Supreme Court look`s at everybody`s caseload. They saw how busy we are and voted unanimously," says Judge Gary H. Lee.

The new judges will be appointed by Governor John Hoeven by January 31, 2010. [1]
