The Judicial Update

May 23, 2012

Ohio: Yesterday, the Ohio Supreme Court announced that Justice Evelyn Stratton will retire from the court at the end of this year. She intends to step down to continue her work with providing mental health services to offenders and helping veterans with access to the justice system. Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor said, "Without a doubt, Justice Stratton is a fine judge and will be missed as a member of the court. I wish her nothing but success as she pursues a new calling to improve the lives of many Ohioans who need a tireless advocate."[1]

Justice Stratton has served on the court since 1996, when she was appointed by Gov. George Voinivich. Before that, she was a judge on the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas for seven years.[2]

The retirement will give Governor John Kasich his first Supreme Court appointment.
