Appellate judges in Oklahoma participate in retention elections, while judges of the District Courts compete in non-partisan elections.

Primary election

Only District Court candidates compete in the primary election. If more than two candidates compete for one seat, the two with the most votes advance to the general election. If no candidate receives a majority, there is a runoff election.
