New judge in Lane County
Oregon: Gov. Ted Kulongoski appointed Suzanne Chanti to the Lane County Circuit Court (2nd Judicial District) on January 26, 2010. She will replace Judge Gregory Foote.[1]
Arlow joins race for Oregon Supreme Court
Oregon: Allan J. Arlow, an administrative law judge for the Oregon Public Utility Commission, announced his candidacy for position 5 on the Oregon Supreme Court. Judge Jack Landau is also running for this position.[1]
Circuit Judge seeking re-election
Oregon: Judge Richard L. Barron is seeking re-election to the Coos County Circuit Court, where he has served since 1981. He presides over Position 2.[1]
Rebecca Duncan appointed to Oregon Court of Appeals
Oregon: Governor Ted Kulongoski has appointed Rebecca Duncan to the Oregon Court of Appeals. She is filling the seat vacated by Walt Edmonds, who retired at the end of 2009. [1] If she wishes to retain the seat, she must run for election in 2010. [2]
The Governor said of the appointment: "Rebecca Duncan is an outstanding appellate lawyer with significant criminal and constitutional law experience, making her eminently qualified to serve on the Court of Appeals. Her familiarity with the volume and substance of the work before this court means she can hit the ground running and make immediate and meaningful contributions to one of the hardest working courts in the country." [1]
Judge seeks position on Oregon Supreme Court
Oregon: Judge Jack Landau, currently of the Oregon Court of Appeals, plans to run for the open seat on the Oregon Supreme Court. The seat will be vacated by W. Michael Gillette, who's term ends on January 3, 2011. The primary election will be held on May 18, 2010.[1]
District of Oregon recommendations made
Oregon: Senator Ron Wyden has released the list of the five recommendations he is making to President Obama for a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. The recommendations are to fill posts currently filled by judges Ancer Haggerty and Garr King as they move to senior status.
The judges nominated by Wyden are Oregon Supreme Court justice Thomas Balmer, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Henry Kantor and Lane County Circuit Court Judge Karsten Rasmussen. Also recommended are attorney Michael Simon and federal public defender Steven Wax. [1]
