Patrica Gaughan is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Vaughn graduated from St. Mary`s College with her bachelor's degree in 1975 and later graduated from Notre Dame Law School with her juris doctor degree in 1978.[1]

Professional career

After Law School, Gaughan was an Assistant prosecuting attorney for the Criminal Trial Division for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office from 1978 to 1983 and 1984-1987. In 1983, Gaughn became a Assistant U.S. attorney in the Economic Crimes Division for the Northern District of Ohio from 1983-1984. Also in 1983, Gaughn became a adjunct professor at Cleveland State University's Cleveland Marshall College of Law a post she held in 1987. In 1984, Gaughan left the US Attorney's office and after returning as an Assistant prosecuting attorney in Cuyahoga County in 1984, Gaughan also started work as a private practice attorney in Cleveland before being elected judge of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas from 1987 to 1995.[2]

Judicial career

Northern District of Ohio

On the recommendation of Senator John Glenn, Gaughan was nominated by President Bill Clinton on September 29, 1995 to a seat vacated by Ann Aldrich as Aldrich assumed senior status. Gaughn was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 22, 1995 and received commission on December 22, 1995.[2]
