Patrick Conmy is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Conmy is a judge on serving on senior status.[1]
Early life and education
A native of North Dakota, Conmy graduated from Harvard College with his Bachelor's Degree in 1955 and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC with his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1959.
Professional career
After law school at Georgetown, Conmy started in the US Department of Labor as a Junior management assistant from 1955 to 1959. In 1959, Conmy relocated back to North Dakota and served his entire pre-judicial legal career in private practice in the State of North Dakota from 1959 to 1985. In addition to private practice, Conmy was elected as a City Commissioner for the City of Bismarck, ND from 1968 to 1976 and was elected a member of the North Dakota State House of Representatives from 1976-1985[2].
Judicial career
District of North Dakota
On the recommendation of Senator Mark Andrews, Conmy was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on on October 16, 1985 to a seat vacated by Bruce Van Sickle as Van Sickle went on senior status. Conmy was confirmed by the Senate on December 16, 1985 and received commission on December 17, 1985. Conmy served as the chief judge of the District of North Dakota from 1985 to 1992 before assuming senior status on January 5, 2000.
