Patrick Errol Higginbotham is a Federal Appeals Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Higginbotham is a Judge serving on senior status.
Early Life and Education
Born in McCalla, Alabama, Higginbotham graduated from University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa with his Bachelor's degree in 1960 and later from University of Alabama School of Law with his Law Degree in 1961.[1]
Legal Career
Higginbotham served as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps from 1961 to 1964. Higginbotham was a private practice attorney in Texas from 1964 to 1975 and also served Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University Law School in 1976.[1]
Federal Judicial Career
Northern District of Texas
Higginbotham was nominated by President Gerald Ford on December 2, 1975 to a seat vacated by Sarah Hughes. Higginbotham was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 12, 1975 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 12, 1975. [1]
Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Higginbotham was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on July 1, 1982 to a seat vacated by Reynaldo Garza as Garza assumed senior status. Higginbotham was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 27, 1982, and received commission on July 30, 1982. Higginbotham later assumed senior status on August 28, 2006. [1]
