Paul Raymond Hays (1903-1980) was a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He joined the court in 1962 after an appointment from John F. Kennedy. At the time of appointment, he was a professor at Columbia University. He assumed senior status on September 11, 1974, and served in that capacity until his death on February 13, 1980.[1]

Judicial career

Second Circuit

Hays received a recess appointment from President John F. Kennedy on October 5, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was nominated on January 15, 1962, confirmed by the Senate on March 16, 1962, and received his commission on March 17th. He assumed senior status on September 11, 1974, and served in that capacity until his death on February 13, 1980.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Murray Gurfein.
