Philip A. Brimmer (b.1959) is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Brimmer is a Republican. ^[1]

Early life and education

Born in Rawlins, Wyoming, Brimmer graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1981, and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School in 1985. ^[2]

Legal career

Brimmer was a law clerk for the Hon. Zita Weinshienk in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado from 1985 to 1987. Brimmer was a private practice attorney in Colorado from 1987 to 1994 before serving as the Deputy District Attorney for the Denver, Colorado District Attorney's Office until 2001. Brimmer served as the Chief Deputy District Attorney for the Denver, Colorado District Attorney's Office in 2001. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Colorado from 2001 to 2006, serving as the chief prosecutor of the major crimes section in 2006, and as the chief prosecutor of the special prosecutions section until 2008. ^[2]

Federal judicial career

Brimmer was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Colorado by President George W. Bush on July 10, 2008, to a seat vacated by Lewis Babcock. Brimmer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 26, 2008, and received commission on October 14, 2008.^[3]
