Philip V. Cortese is a judge for the Montgomery County Family Court in New York. He has served in this position since 2003, following his election. His current term expires in 2022.[1]
Education
Cortese received his B.A. degree from Georgetown University in 1974, his M.P.A. degree from Syracuse University in 1976 and his J.D. degree from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1981.[1]
Legal career
Cortese began his career in 1981 as an attorney for the law firm of Horigan, Horigan, Pennock & Lombardo. He then practiced in the Law Office of Paul Wolllman from 1987 to 1989 while also serving as a law clerk to Judge Howard Aison from 1987 to 1988. He worked as Corporation Counsel for Amsterdam, NY from 1988 to 2003 and was a self-employed private practice lawyer from 1989 to 2003. He then took office on the Family Court bench.[1]
