Biography
Justice Speedlin grew up in Ohio. She graduated from Incarnate Word College with a degree in nursing. She also holds a masters degree in health care administration from Trinity University and a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law. Speedlin served for four years as a U.S. Army nurse.[4] She is now married and has two daughters and one son.[1]
Legal career
Justice Speedlin worked as a trial attorney with the law firm Clemens & Spencer for 17 years before she became a judge. During this time, she focused on the areas of medical malpractice and health care law. She then served on the 408th Judicial District Court in Bexar County for over 3 years and joined the Court of Appeals in 2003.[1]
Dear Birthmother
While in law school, Speedlin co-authored "Dear Birthmother" with Kathleen Silber. The book has been described as an "open adoption classic" that is "gently provocative, warm and convincing." It includes copies of letters exchanged between adoptive parents and birthparents, and between birthparents and their children.[4]
