Early life and education
Doherty graduated from Northwestern State University-Louisiana with her Bachelor's Degree in 1973 and with her Master's Degree in 1975 before later graduating from the Louisiana State University Law Center with his Juris Doctor Degree in 1981.[1]
Professional career
Doherty spent her entire pre-judicial legal career as a Private practice attorney licensed in the State of Louisiana from 1981 to 1991.[1]

Western District of Louisiana
Doherty was nominated by George H.W. Bush on June 27, 1991 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089 which was approved by Congress. Doherty was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1991 and received commission on November 5, 1991. [1]

Cockfighting Case

| In 2005, Judge Doherty ruled that cockfighters had failed to prove their claim that a federal law clamping down on the cockfighting business discriminates against Cajuns and Hispanics and violates the rights of people in Louisiana and New Mexico.[2] |
