Reed O'Connor is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He joined the court in 2007 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. [1]
Early life and education
A native Texan, O'Connor graduated from the University of Houston with his Bachelor's Degree in 1986 and later graduated from the South Texas College of Law with his Juris Doctor Degree in 1989.[1]
Professional career
O'Connor first began his legal career as a private practice licensed in the State of Texas from 1989 to 1994 as an Associate for the Texas-Based law firm of Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P. In 1994, O'Connor became a proesucting attorney as the Assistant district attorney for the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office based in Fort Worth from 1994 to 1998. From 1998 to 2007, O'Connor joined the US Attorney's Office as a Assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas from 1998 to 2007 and also worked on the Staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee chaired by Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch from 2003 to 2007[2].
Judicial career
Northern District of Texas
On the unanimous recommendation of Texas U.S. Senators Kay Bailey-Hutchinson and Phil Gramm, O'Connor was nominated by President George W. Bush on June 27, 2007 to a seat vacated by Joe Fish as Fish assumed senior status. O'Connor was confirmed by the Senate on November 16, 2007 on a senate vote and received commission on November 21, 2007.[1]
