Richard Bosson is a justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court. Judge Bosson was appointed to the court on November 5, 2002 by Republican Governor Gary E. Johnson, and took office on December 20, 2002. He won a successful retention election in 2004 and his term ends December 31, 2012.[1]
Legal background
Bosson attended Wesleyan University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in 1966, and continued his education at Georgetown University Law Center, where he graduated with a JD in 1969. In 1998, he returned to school and earned an LLM in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law.[2]
Legal career
From 1981 to 1994, Justice Richard Bosson was Senior Partner at Bosson & Canepa, P.A. Prior to that, he was Director of the Civil Division of the Consumer Protection Division at the New Mexico Attorney Generals Office from 1976-1978. In 1975, he did a Latin American Teaching Fellowship in Colombia at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in South America. Judge Bosson has served on the Bond Counsel for the City of Santa Fe, and has been a New Mexico Commissioner of Banking.[3]
In terms of judicial experience, Justice Bosson became Judge on the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 1994, where he remained until he became Chief Judge of the same court in 2001. In 2002 he went on to the New Mexico Supreme Court, and was Chief Justice from 2002 to 2006.[4]
