Richard Barclay Surrick is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Surrick assumed senior status on February 1, 2011.

Early life and education

Born in Media, Pennsylvania, Surrick graduated from Dickinson College with his bachelor's degree in 1960 and his Juris Doctor J.D. degree in 1965. Surrick received and LL.M from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982.[1]

Professional career

Surrick was a private practice attorney in the State of Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1977. Surrick served as Chief of the Appellate Division in the Ballotpedia:Delaware County, Pennsylania Office of the Public Defender from 1965 to 1974. From 1978 to 200, Surrick served as Judge for the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Judicial career

Eastern District of Pennsylvania

Surrick was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by President Bill Clinton on April 11, 2000 to a seat vacated by Lowell Reed, Jr. Surrick was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 24, 2000 on a Senate vote and received commission on June 5, 2000.[2]
