Background
Travis is an attorney with the Sioux Falls Based Law Firm May and Johnson, PC. Travis is an attorney that specializes his practice in Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, Insurance Defense, and Workers Compensation.
Travis began working as a general practitioner for the law firm of Frieberg, Frieberg & Peterson in Beresford, South Dakota. During his tenure in Beresford, Dick was Deputy State's Attorney for Union County for four years. In 1990, he joined the law firm of May & Johnson, P.C. where his focus as a private practice attorney was litigation.
Judicial Qualifications Commission
Travis was appointed in 2003 by the State Bar of Association of South Dakota to become a laywer member of the Judicial Qualifications Commission. Travis, was retained for a second term in 2007 and was the President of the Judicial Qualifcations Commission from 2007 to 2008.

Travis has held past leadership positions on the South Dakota State Bar Association as the President of the Young Lawyers Section from 1985 to 1986, Bar Commissioner from 1989 to 1994, and served on the Discplinary Board from 1994 to 2000. Also, Travis served on the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association's Board of Governors from 1991 to 1993.
Personal
Travis attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion South Dakota graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in 1976 and his Juris Doctorate degree in 1980.
