Robert C. (Bob) Hunter is a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Governor Hunt appointed him to this position in July of 1998. Hunter was elected in November of 1998 and re-elected in November of 2006. His current term ends in 2014.[1] [2]
Education
Hunter received his B.A. degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1966. He then attended the University of North Carolina Law School and earned his J.D. degree in 1969. Besides his legal career, he is a former co-owner and vice president of Builder Supply of McDowell, Inc. [2]
Legal career
Judge Hunter began his legal career in 1969 as an Assistant District Attorney. In 1970, he became a McDowell County Attorney, a position he held until 1994. During this time, from 1970 to 1998, he was a senior attorney and the president of the law firm Hunter & Evans, PA. Also, from 1980 to 1998, he served as a North Carolina Representative in the 49th House District. He was then appointed to the Court of Appeals.[2]

- Outstanding North Carolina County Attorney Award (1981-82)
- Recognized by North Carolina District Attorneys' Association for contributions to Criminal Justice (1986)
- Legislative Award by McDowell County Board of Education (1986)
- Family Services of McDowell County Award in appreciation for defending the basic rights of battered women and abused children (1985)[3]
2010 election

Judge Hunter ran for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court currently held by Edward Thomas Brady. He was defeated by Barbara Jackson in the general election, receiving 48.13% of the vote. [4] [5][6]
