Robert E. Davis was appointed Chief Justice of the Kansas Supreme Court in 2009 by Democratic Governor, Kathleen Sebelius. He was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by Governor Finney. [1] His current term ends in 2014.
Health concerns
Davis temporarily left office in early 2010 due to unspecified medical concerns. Justice Lawton Nuss is serving as the court's chief justice in the meantime. [2]
Education
Davis received his bachelor's degree from Creighton University in 1961 and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law School in 1964. [1]
Professional career
Davis worked as a private practice lawyer in Leavenworth from 1967 to 1984. During this time, he served as a Leavenworth County magistrate judge (1969-1976), an attorney for the State Board of Pharmacy (1972-1984), and a Leavenworth County attorney (1981-1984). He was then appointed associate district judge. After two years in this position, he was appointed to the Kansas Court of Appeals in 1986. He judged on that court until his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1993. [1]
