Robert Dumar is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
Early life and education
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Doumar graduated from the University of Virginia with his Bachelor's degree in 1951 and later from the University of Virginia School of Law, with his Bachelor of Laws Degree, LL.B, in 1953. Doumar served on Active Duty in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Doumar received a Master of Laws, LL.M degree in 1988. [1]
Professional career
Doumar served as a private practice attorney in the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1955 till his appointment to the Federal Bench in 1981. [1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Virginia
On the recommendation of Virginia U.S. Senator John Warner, Doumar was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia by Ronald Reagan on November 5, 1981 to a seat vacated by Richard Kellam. Doumar was confirmed by the Senate on December 3, 1981 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 3, 1981. [1] Doumar was succeeded in this position by Jerome Friedman.
