Roderick L. Ireland is the chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. He has served on the court since 1997 and became it's Chief Justice on December 20, 2010.[1] His term ends in 2014, at the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Chief Justice nomination

On November 4, 2010, Governor Deval Patrick nominated Ireland to serve as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Ireland succeeds Margaret Marshall and is the first African-American to serve in that position. [2][3] Patrick swore Ireland in on December 20, 2010. [4]

Education

Ireland received his B.A. from Lincoln University, J.D. from Columbia University Law School, LL.M. from Harvard Law School, and Ph.D. in Law, Policy and Society from Northeastern University.[5]
