Salmon Portland Chase (1808-1873) was a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He joined the court in 1864 after an appointment from Abraham Lincoln. At the time of appointment, he was the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. He served until his death on May 7, 1873.[1]
