Sarah Parker

Sarah Parker (b. 1942) is the Chief Justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, a position she has held since February 1, 2006. She was first elected in 1992 in a non-partisan election, and then again in 1996 and 2004.[1] Her current term expires in 2014.
Legal education
Justice Sarah Parker graduated from Garinger High School, Charlotte, 1960, attended Meredith College, 1960-1962 and graduated with a B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill, 1964. Parker earned her J.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law, 1969 and attended the Institute of Judicial Administration Appellate Judges Seminar, 1987.[1]
Legal experience
Justice Sarah Parker began working after college in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ankara Turkey from 1964-1966. After law school, she was an attorney in private practice from 1969-1984. On December 28, 1984, Parker was appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals, where she was elected on November 4, 1986 and re-elected on November 6, 1990. She became an Associate Justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court in 1993.[1]
