Scott A. Brister has been a Justice of the Texas Supreme Court since November 2003. He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve the remainder of departing Justice Craig T. Enoch's term, and was elected to a six-year term in November 2004. His current term ends December 31, 2010. Justice Brister is a Republican.[citation needed]

Brister is a native of Waco, Texas. He is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School.[citation needed]
Legal experience
In 1989, Justice Scott Brister was appointed to the 234th District Court in Harris County, where he remained until 1998. From 1998 to 1999, he was the civil administrative judge for the Harris County district court, and in 2000, he was elected to the First Court of Appeals. In 2001, Governor Perry appointed Justice Brister chief justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals of Texas in 2001, and was re-elected the next year.[citation needed]
