Sean J. McLaughlin is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.
Early life and education
A native Pennsylvanian, McLaughlin graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with his Bachelor's Degree in 1977 and his juris doctorate degree in 1980.[1]
Professional career
McLaughlin had three Law clerkships first for federal judge William Knox in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in 1980 and for federal judges in the Western District of Pennsylvania Gerald Weber from 1980 to 1981 and for federal judge Maurice Cohill, Jr. in 1981. In 1981, McLaughlin entered into private practice licensed in the State of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1994.
Judicial career
Western District of Pennsylvania
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Harris Wofford, McLaughin was nominated by President Bill Clinton on August 12, 1994 to a seat vacated by Glenn Mencer as Mencer assumed senior status. McLaughlin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 1994 and received his commission on October 11, 1994.
