Second Judicial Vacancies Filled
Judge Castro's most recent job was as the managing attorney for the Second Judicial District Public Defender’s Office. He was responsible for the management of daily operations that consisted of all misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases in the St. Paul and the suburban area courts. Judge Castro also teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Saint Thomas School of Law.
Judge Castro received his B.S. in Business and Management from the University of Maryland, University College in 1988. He later earned his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University, College of Law, in 1992.
Judge Diamond's most recent job was as the Deputy Hennepin County Attorney for Criminal Prosecution. Diamond was responsible for any and all appellate, adult, juvenile, white collar, drug, property and gang prosecution functions.
Judge Diamond received his B.A, summa cum laude, in Secondary Education from the Hamline University in 1982. He went to the University of Minnesota Law School in 1986, receiving his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude.
Governor Mark Dayton had good things to say about the newly appointed judges, commenting “Mr. Castro and Mr. Diamond will be excellent additions to the bench in Minnesota’s Second Judicial District. Their diverse experience, outstanding legal skills and strong commitment to public service will serve them both well.”
