Sidney I. Schenkier is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He was appointed to this position on March 30, 1998.[1][2] Schenkier's term expired on October 29, 2014, but he was reappointed to another eight-year term on September 23, 2014, commencing on October 30, 2014. His current term expires on October 29, 2022.[3][4]


Judge Schenkier received his B.S. degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 1976. He then earned his J.D. degree from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1979.[1]


Judge Schenkier began his career in September 1979 as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Marvin Aspen of the Northern District of Illinois. The next year, he began teaching at the University of Chicago Law School as a Bigelow Teaching Fellow. Schenkier then joined the law firm of Jenner & Block on July 14, 1981. He became a partner of this firm in January 1986 and worked in this position until he became a magistrate judge in 1998.[1]
