Spencer Letts is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Letts is serving on senior status.

Early life and education

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Letts graduated from Yale University with his Bachelor's degree in 1956 and later received his Bachelor's of Laws, LL.B, from Harvard Law School in 1960.[1]

Legal career

Letts served as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves from 1956 to 1965 and also entered private practice in Houston, Texas from 1960 to 1966. Letts was the Vice President and General Counsel for Teledyne, Inc. in Los Angeles, California from 1966 to 1973 and again from 1975 to 1978. Letts was a private practice attorney in the State of California from 1973 to 1975 and again from 1978 to 1985.[1]

Federal judicial career

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Letts was nominated to United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Ronald Reagan on November 7, 1985 to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333, which was approved by Congress. Letts was confirmed by the Senate on December 16, 1985, and received commission on December 17, 1985.[1]
