Stanley Thomas Anderson is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
Early life and education
Born in Lexington, Tennessee, Anderson graduated from the University of Tennessee with his Bachelor's Degree in 1976 from Memphis State University, and with his Juris Doctor Degree in 1980. [1]
Professional career
Anderson began his legal career in private practice in Tennessee from 1980 to 1983 and then again from 1987 to 2003. From 1983 to 1985, Anderson served as Assistant Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. From 1985-1987, Anderson was Claims commissioner for the State of Tennessee Department of Treasury. [1]
Judicial career
Western District of Tennessee
Anderson started his judicial career as a Federal Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee from 2003 to 2008.[1]
In 2008, on the recommendation of Senators Lamar Alexander and Bill Frist, Anderson was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee by President George W. Bush on September 6, 2007, to a seat vacated by James Todd. Anderson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 10, 2008, and received commission on May 21, 2008. [2]
