Stephen Wm. Smith is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He was appointed to this position on July 22, 2004.
Biography and Education
Judge Smith was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1951. He received his B.A. degree in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University in 1973 and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1977.
Judge Smith began his career in 1977 as a clerk for the U.S. Court of Claims. The following year, he joined the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. He became a partner of the firm in 1985 and he worked in that position until his judicial appointment in 2004.
