Stephen S. Trott is a federal appeals judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit based in San Francisco. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Trott assumed senior status on December 13, 2004.[1]

Education

Trott graduated from Wesleyan University with his bachelor's degree in 1962 and later graduated from Harvard Law School with his LL.B. degree in 1965.[1]

Professional career

Trott began his career with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office from 1966 to 1981 and served as the Chief of the unit from 1975 to 1979. In 1981, Trott was nominated by President Reagan as U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California and served two years in that capacity until 1983 then later joined the United States Department of Justice as Assistant Attorney General handling cases in the Criminal Division from 1983 to 1986. He became an Associate Attorney General with a broader oversight on the Justice Department from 1986 to 1988.[1]

Judicial career

Trott was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on August 7, 1987, to a seat vacated by Judge Joseph Sneed. Trott was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 24, 1988, on a majority voice vote and received commission on March 25, 1988.[2] Trott later assumed senior status on December 31, 2004.[1]
