Superior Court judge acquits man in fraud case

Rhode Island: A man accused of elderly fraud has been acquitted by a Rhode Island Superior Court. James E. Vieira, 65, claimed he was a financial planner and tax preparer working with Daniel and Barbara Mooney, who are now both deceased. He received $751,535.64 from them over the course of four years. He used the money to buy artwork and sports memorabilia from eBay. In 2009, he was charged by a statewide grand jury with 15 counts of larceny, obtaining money under false pretenses and embezzlement.
