Supreme Court orders school district to disclose teachers' salaries
Wyoming: On Tuesday, March 29, the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that the Wyoming Tribune Eagle may have access to documents containing the records of teachers' salaries in Laramie County School District 1. In doing so, the high court upheld a ruling by a district court judge and, in essence, declared the data to be public information. Justice Michael Golden, author of the court's decision, said that, "the public has a right to know how a governmental entity expends public funds." D. Reed Eckhardt, the executive editor at the newspaper, said, "Of course, we're always thrilled, but in this case we're not surprised. There never was a doubt in our minds that the salaries and the names are public information."
