Susan K. Gauvey is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. She was appointed to this position on February 26, 1996.[1]

Biography and Education

Judge Gauvey was born on March 1, 1948 in Van Wert, Ohio. She received her B.A. degree in political science from Rosary College in 1970 and her J.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1973.[2]

Career

Susan Gauvey began her career as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Morell Sharp of the Western District of Washington. From 1975 to 1979, she worked for the Legal Aid Bureau. She then became an Assistant Attorney General, working first in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (1979-1981), then the Civil Division (1981-1984), and lastly as Principal Counsel for Trial Litigation (1984-1986). In 1986, she joined the law firm Venable, Baetjer and Howard, where she worked until her appointment to the U.S. District Court in 1996.[1][2]
