Susan Read

Susan Read is a judge of the State of New York Court of Appeals, New York's court of last resort. She was appointed by Governor Pataki on January 6, 2003 and her current term ends in 2017.[1][2]
Biography
Judge Read was born in 1947 in Gallipolis, Ohio. She received her B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1969 and her J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1972.[1]
Legal career
Judge Read began her career in 1972 as a legal intern for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. She served as assistant counsel for the State University of New York from 1974 to 1977. She then joined the General Electric Company and worked as Chief Environmental Counsel from 1980 to 1985. She left this company in 1988 to partner with the law firm Bond, Schoeneck and King. In 1995, she became Deputy Counsel to Gov. George E. Pataki. On April 30, 1998, she joined the New York State Court of Claims. She became the Presiding Judge of this court in 1999 and then joined the Court of Appeals in 2003.[1]
