Tennessee Circuit Courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction in Tennessee. There is a circuit court in each of the state's 31 judicial districts. To find the judges in a specific circuit, click on the corresponding district in the table below.
Jurisdiction
"Circuit judges hear civil and criminal cases and appeals of decisions from City, Juvenile, Municipal and General Sessions courts. The jurisdiction of Circuit Courts often overlaps that of the Chancery Courts. Criminal cases are tried in Circuit Court except in districts with separate Criminal Courts established by the General Assembly." [1]
Method of selection and terms of judges
Circuit Court judges participate in partisan elections and serve eight year terms. If a vacancy occurs, the governor appoints a replacement from a list generated by the Nominating Commission. The replacement fills the remainder of the unexpired term, then runs in the next general election.
