Terrence McVerry is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
Early life and education
A native Pennsylvanian, McVerry graduated from Duquesne University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1965 and his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1968.[1]
Professional career
McVerry was a private practice licensed in the State of Pennsylvania from 1966 to 1998. In addition to his private practice work, McVerry was a part-timeAssistant district attorney for Allegheny County from 1969 to 1973, In 1998, McVerry became a Common Pleas Judge for the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County until the year 2000. From 2000 to 2002, McVerry served as a Solicitor/Director for the Allegheny County Law Department and also as a Solicitor/General counsel for the Community College of Allegheny County.
Judicial career
Western District of Pennsylvania
On the unanimous recommendation of Pennsylvania U.S. Senators Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter, McVerry was nominated by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002 to a seat vacated by Donald Ziegler as Ziegler retired from active judicial duty.[2] Ziegler was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 3, 2002 on a unopposed 88 to 0 vote and received commission on September 4, 2002.[3]
