Thomas M. Rose is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
Early Life and Career
An Ohio native, Rose graduated from Ohio University with his Bachelor's degree in 1970. He graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1973. Rose served on the Ohio University ROTC from 1966 to 1970, and in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1970-1978. [1]
Professional career
Rose started his legal career in 1973 in private practice in Ohio. At the same time, Rose was a part-time assistant prosecutor in the Greene County Prosecutor's Office, a position he filled full time from 1973 to 1975. Rose returned to private practice in 1975, became the Chief Juvenile Court referee in the Greene County Prosecutor's Office in 1976, and then returned again to private practice in 1978 where he remained until 1991.
Rose also served as the Chief Assistant in Charge in the Civil Division of the Greene County Prosecutor's Office from 1978 to 1991 before being elected judge in the Greene County Common Pleas Court in 1991. He served in this capacity until his nomination to the Federal bench in 2002. [1]
Judicial career
Southern District of Ohio
On the recommendation of Senators Mike DeWine and George Vonovich, Rose was nominated by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002, to a seat vacated by Herman Weber as Weber went on senior status. Rose was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 9, 2002 on a senate vote and received commission on May 10, 2002. [1]
