Thomas B. Russell is judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. He joined the Court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He served as chief judge of the court from 2008 until he assumed senior status on November 15, 2011.
Early life and education
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Russell graduated from Western Kentucky University with his Bachelor's degree in 1967 and from the University of Louisville Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1970.[1]
Professional career
Russell was a private practice attorney in Paducah, Kentucky from 1970 to 1994.[1]
Judicial career
Western District of Kentucky
On the recommendation of Senator Wendell Ford, Russell was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky by President Bill Clinton on September 14, 1994 to a seat vacated by Edward Johnstone. Russell was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 1994 on a Senate vote and received commission on October 11, 1994. He served as chief judge of the court from 2008 until he assumed senior status on November 15, 2011.[2]
