Tyree Irving is a presiding judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals (District 2, Position 1). He was first elected to this position in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002 and 2010. His current term ends in 2018. [1]
Biography
Judge Irving was born on July 12, 1946, in Greenwood, Mississippi. He graduated from Jackson State College in 1968. After working as a public school teacher for four years, he earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1974. He is currently married and has six children.[2]
Legal career
Judge Irving began his legal career as a law clerk to Chief Justice Robert G. Gillespie of the Mississippi Supreme Court. He then interned with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. In 1978, he became an assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi. Ten years later, he was hired as board attorney for Humphreys County. He then ran a general, solo law practice in Greenwood until his election to the Court of Appeals.[2]
2010 election
Irving defeated Ceola James in the general election. [3]
