The United States District Court for the District of Florida was created by Congress in 1845, with one judgeship authorized[1]. Shortly thereafter, in 1847, Congress divided Florida into two judicial districts, the Northern and Southern, with one judgeship authorized for each[1]. Isaac Hopkins Bronson, the judge of the District of Florida, was transferred to the Northern District at the time of this division[1].
