United States District Court for the District of West Virginia
From Judgepedia
The United States District Court for the District of West Virginia was created by Congress in 1864, shortly after West Virginia was separated from Virginia, of which it had formerly been a part[1]. Before that time, Virginia had been divided into Eastern and Western Districts; the District of West Virginia was formed from what had been a part of the Western District of Virginia. The District of West Virginia was abolished in 1901, when West Virginia was divided into Northern and Southern Districts[1]. During the entire 37 year life of the court, its only judge was John Jay Jackson[1],[2].
