"The Vermont Judicial Branch of state government was established under the constitution to protect the rights of all Vermonters by providing equal access to courts and an opportunity for the merits of every legal dispute to be impartially heard and decided in a timely way.

The role of the courts is to protect individual rights and to ensure everyone their day in court. The Judiciary, as one of the three co-equal branches of state government, is an important element in the constitutional balance of power between Vermont's Courts, Governor, and Legislature." [1]
