Victoria Graffeo is a judge of the State of New York Court of Appeals, New York's court of last resort. Justice Graffeo was appointed to the court by Republican Governor George Pataki and was confirmed by the Senate on November 29, 2000 for a 14-year term.[1] Her current term expires in 2014.[2]

Biography

Judge Graffeo was born in 1952 in Rockville Centre, New York. She received her undergraduate degree from the State University College at Oneonta in 1974 and her J.D. degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 1977.[1]

Legal career

Judge Graffeo began her career in 1978 as a private practice lawyer. In 1982, she became assistant counsel to the New York State Division of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. She then worked as counsel to New York Representative Kemp Hannon from 1984 to 1989 and then as chief counsel to Rep. Clarence D. Rappleyea, Jr. from 1989 through 1994. She was appointed New York Solicitor General on January 1, 1995. She was then appointed to the Third District of the Supreme Court of the State of New York in September of 1996. She joined the Appellate Division of this court in March of 1998 and was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2000.[1]
