Virginia Lindner is an Associate Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. She is the 99th justice in that court, having been elected to her seat in 2006. Lindner's current term expires in 2012. Justice Linder was appointed to the Court of Appeals by then-Gov. John Kitzhaber, a Democrat.[citation needed]
Background
Born in CaƱon City, Colorado and raised in Carmichael, California, Judge Linder graduated from Del Campo High School (1971), Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University) (B.A. summa cum laude in Political Science 1975), and Willamette University College of Law (J.D. cum laude 1980). While in college and law school, Judge Linder served in student government, was a teaching assistant and research assistant, clerked for the Department of Justice Appellate Division, participated in regional and national mock trial competitions, and earned several academic awards.[citation needed]
Legal career
Before joining the Supreme Court, she served on the Court of Appeals (1997 - 2007). Before joining the Court of Appeals, she served in the Department of Justice as:
- Assistant Attorney General in the Appellate Division (1980 - 1983)
- Attorney-in-Charge of the Education Section, General Counsel Division (1983 - 1984)
- Assistant Solicitor General (1984 - 1986)
- Solicitor General (1986 - 1997)[citation needed]
