Walter Bastian
Walter Maximillian Bastian (1891-1975) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
DC Circuit
Bastian received a recess appointment to the DC Circuit from President Dwight Eisenhower on September 20, 1954, to a seat vacated by Bennett Clark; he was nominated on November 8, 1954, confirmed by the Senate on December 2, 1954, and received his commission on December 3rd. He assumed senior status on March 16, 1965, and served in that capacity until his death on March 12, 1975.[1]
DC District
Bastian received a recess appointment to the DC District from President Harry Truman on October 23, 1950, to a seat vacated by Thomas Jennings Bailey; he was nominated on November 27, 1950, confirmed by the Senate on December 14, 1950, and received his commission on December 22nd. He served until he was elevated to the DC Circuit on December 15, 1954.
