Walter Gex is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. Gex is a judge serving on senior status. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. [1]
Early life and education
AS Mississippi native, Gex graduated from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS with his Bachelor's Degree in 1962 and with his law degree in 1963.[1]
Professional career
Gex spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Mississippi from 1963 to 1986.[1]
Judicial career
Southern District of Mississippi
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran, Gex was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on January 29, 1986 to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333 which was approved by Congress. Gex was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 25, 1986 on a Senate vote and received commission on February 26, 1986. Gex later assumed senior status on March 24, 2004.[1]
