Judges in Washington are selected in non-partisan elections. In the primary election, if one candidate receives over 50% of the vote, they win the race without a general election. If no candidate obtains a majority of the vote, the two with the greatest number of votes compete in the general election.
Midterm vacancies are filled by gubernatorial appointment. Appointees must then run in the next election to retain the seat.
