Wilhelmina M. Wright is a judge on the Minnesota Supreme Court. She was appointed by Governor Mark Dayton in August 2012, becoming the first female African-American justice on the Court.[1] [2][3] She must run for the seat in the 2014 election if she wishes to continue serving. [4]
Education
Judge Wright graduated from Yale University in 1986 with a degree in Literature. In 1989, she received her J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. [2]
Legal career
After law school, Judge Wright worked as a law clerk to Damon J. Keith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She then joined the Washington D.C. law firm Hogan & Hartson, LLP. In 1995, she began working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota. She then became a Judge on the Ramsey County District Court (2nd District). In 2002, Gov. Jesse Ventura appointed Wright to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. She served in that position until joining the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2012. [2]
2010 election
Connolly was re-elected to the Court of Appeals after running unopposed. [5]
