William Byrne, Sr.

William Matthew Byrne, Sr. (1896-1974) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Byrne received a recess appointment from President Harry Truman to the Southern District of California on September 27, 1950, to a seat vacated by James O`Connor; nominated on November 27, 1950; he was confirmed by the Senate on December 13, 1950, and received commission on December 21, 1950. From 1965-1966, he served as the chief judge. He assumed senior status on June 30, 1966. He served the Southern District of California until he was assigned to the Central District of California on September 18, 1966. He served the Central District of California until his death on March 9, 1974.
