William J. Hibbler is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, one of the busiest federal courts in the nation. He joined the court in 1999 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. At the time of appointment, Hibbler was an Associate judge, Cook County Circuit Court. He served in the federal courts until his death on March 20, 2012.[1]

Early life and education

Hibbler earned his B.S. degree from the University of Chicago in 1969 and his J.D. from DePaul University in 1973.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Illinois

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Hibbler was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 26, 1999, to a judgeship vacated by James Alesia. Hibbler was confirmed by the Senate on April 15, 1999, and received commission on April 22, 1999. He served in the federal courts until his death on March 20, 2012.[1]
